Happy New Year!

“We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”  ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Today is the day that people look back at the 365 days they spent, what they did, what changed in them (or didn’t change ). Today will also be the day they get a glimpse of their future and how they want it to be.

Every 365 days we get a second chance. A second chance that would bless us to live the life we admire to have. Either by making new goals or working on keeping the old ones.

This year has been an interesting year for me. I believe that I’ve actually grown up this year more than I did the past 16 years. Here are some of the things I realized in the year 2009:

- Procrastinating is my sworn enemy.

- The hard work you put into anything, not matter how small it is, will pay off eventually.

- Don’t dedicate your life to pleasing every single person.  An old Arabic saying: (Pleasing everyone is an unachievable objective)

- Getting a blackberry would guarantee no more boredom.

- Some of the happiest moments I had were with my family.

-  A smile on our face can never do any harm.

- Commenting on something good you noticed in someone (i.e. I like your scarf, you did a great job…) would not only make that person happy, but also give you that blissful feeling as well.

- Dreaming of making a change, someway somehow, will drive you through the obstacles you go through to achieve that dream of yours.

- People, things, work, enemies, hobbies, and even yourself: Never make them your “center”. Your principles take that position. The rest are not stable centers. They’re bound to change one way or another.

-  Balance is the key to every door.

-  No matter how things get bad, always remember that you’re not alone. You have your friends, if not, your family, if not, you will always have God by your side.

- After being enrolled to an art class in school, I realized how much I like painting.

- Taking a day off and just chilling quietly in your room, reading a good book or even coloring for old time’s sake is a habit that I should do more often.

- There will always be something to do.

- Life isn’t always rainbows and roses. It’s also not always darkness and sadness. Just live through the tough times, they’re bound to end eventually. And seize the chance to enjoy the happy times as well.

.

These are just a few things that I have discovered, and things that I will take into consideration the next year to come.

I hope the next year would be a better year. Now that I’m graduating from high school I have a fresh start to walk into the real life. A fresh start to change what needs to be altered. And to realize even more things than the previous year.

.

.

I wish you all a happy and a wonderful new year!

* Tell me something that you realized in 2009, and something that you want to work on in 2010! :)
